Step 1: Put together a group of people with a common goal
Step 2: Find a great leader to help accomplish your goals
To lead a group of people, you need to have a strong leader. This leader should be able to influence others, settle disputes, and take everyone's ideas into consideration. During the unification, Italy had two specific leaders throughout the time period; Count Cavour and Garibaldi. Cavour was ultimately the strongest leader with the most power, since he was the Prime Minister of Piedmont. This lead to great Italian success, and should be an example to anyone who wants to create a successful and strong nation.

Step 5: Gain victories ONE AT A TIME
It's important to not take on too much when it comes to wars, especially when you are a new nation or country. You should take on smaller nations first, and then challenge yourself to more powerful nations a little at a time. Always use your allies for support too. France was a huge help in the early part of the Italian unification, and that gave Italy more power and land step by step. This included victories against Austria, Prussia, the two Sicilies, etc.
Step 7: Maintain and gain power Once you have proclaimed your kingdom, don't get too comfortable! You have to make sure you can maintain the land you own and add on too it so you can become more and more powerful.

Step 4: Gain Allies
If you want to make a country, you need powerful allies. These allies will help you win wars to gain territory, trade with you so you have supplies, and protect you when other nations attack. For example, one of the Italians greatest allies was France. Napoleon lll made an alliance with Cavour that helped the Italians win wars against Austria and Prussia, gaining them territory and power.
Step 6: Proclaim Your kingdom Once you have allies, land, resources, and money, you must firmly state/announce that your country is an independent nation to your surrounding nations. This way, there will be no question about whether or not your country is truly independent. Italy proclaimed their kingdom in 1861.
